Trigger Transformers
There
are several styles of lamp triggers commonly used in
lasers and direct flashlamp applications. External trigger
transformers energize a coil of wire surrounding the
lamp causing an ionized streamer between the anode and
cathode of the lamp. This transformer is small in size
and easy to place close to the lamp for reliable lamp
ignition. These transformers are usually potted and are
relatively inexpensive.
Series
injection trigger transformers are built with high current
secondary windings so this winding can be in series between
the discharge capacitor and the lamp. These transformers
are heavier and cost more than external trigger versions
but offer the advantage of acting as a wave shaping inductor
in the high voltage circuit. Careful circuit design using
series injection can yield longer lamp life.

Pulse
Forming Inductors
Traditional
full discharge pulse forming networks use inductors to
help shape the current waveform applied to the lamp.
This results in longer lamp life and better control of
the lamp output. New Source has the capability to build
inductors to your specifications or assist you in a design
that meets your electrical and dimensional requirements.
These inductors are specifically designed for the high
peak currents associated with pulse forming networks
and will provide long-term reliability.
Isolation
Transformers
Used
for both isolation from the mains in Medical lasers and
voltage selection in a variety of industrial applications,
these transformers can be designed using a toroidal core
or the more traditional box style. Low leakage designs
and multiple primary and secondary taps can be configured
to match your specific requirements.
